Friend having problems with his pc.

My Friend's Computer started acting up earlier, he was on it and it had froze randomly. he restarted and it booted up to the windows logo and went to a black screen and he got a bad driver error so we tried a system restore and a fresh install of windows and it worked for alittle but as soon as we installed his gpu drivers we would get the black screen again.

system specs:
I5 3570k
Msi Z77a-g43
Pny 660Ti
Seagate Baracuda 500gb (this was the only part that he used that was in an old computer)

Not likely with a fresh install....

What drivers where you running 301.42 or the new ones 306.23?

Also could you list the PSU make and model?

Any change without the Graphics card?

we've tried both the 301 and 306 drivers but still the same problem. i believe he has the Antec EarthWatts Platinum Series EA-650
I have a ATI video card lying around would it be worth it to install it and see if i have the same problems.

I would swap it out, and see if the issues go away. I would remove the Nvidia driver, and run drivesweeper before installing the ati card.

we swapped in the ati card and hes no longer having the issue. think it was just a faulty gpu?

Either that or a power issue, Have you checked all connections?

Next step after that would be to test the GPU in another system if possible?

We havent tried checking the connections.He bought this card openbox at our local frys almost a month ago, do you think frys would replace it.
