Yes you read it right, the results of how dumb some PC Shop adds in Computer Magazines do!! Hah the thing couldn't calculate 1+1 without 15 fans blowing to back the hard work!
Other examples to talk about:
ATI Export 2000!! (I laughed so hard when I read Export...!)
P4 Tualatin!!
Athlon XP 1.8GHz! Yeah we knew they'd do that, but still!
Geforuce 2. The error was written twice, yet they didn't realize.

Seriously no offense to any store worker here, cuz I know you wouldn't do such false marketting, everyone here except trolls know the names...
Feel free to put your experiences of bad adds!

Maybe this one is more specific, but still an incorrect one:
Celeron 700, 733 and 766 MHz <font color=red>100 MHz FSB</font color=red>

athlon 1.3Gig

and to make it more insulting, it was actually the athlon 'C' i.e. the 1.333.
i wonder if that 1.3Gig came with a 40Mhz hard drive? lol

Is that a Northwoody in your pocket or are you just eXPited to see me?

The best are celeron 100FSB who is not true but expect 10% of the population.Every one will think is a real 100FSB.

the same goes for Athlon xp 1.8 mghz.

I just wonder if this is really a error or marketing.

My attempt at JUIN translation:

The funniest ads are the ones that sport a Celeron 100FSB when they really are not. The advertising expects about 10% of the population to fall for the misleading information.

The same is true for the Athlon XP 1800+ being mistaken for 1.8ghz.

Is this just an error in marketing, or is it intentional?

[psychosis]Walls are moving..... reality is fading.... JUIN posts driving me to insanity.....[/psychosis]

Ahhh... much better now. That was close! I think I will leave the translations to Matisaro.

Or the ever popular 400 GB 720 RPM HD?

I've seen an old computer that advertized 64 MB of video RAM and 16 MB of System ROM

60 FPS, 70 FPS, 80 FPS Crash!

Or the ever popular 400 GB 720 RPM HD?
lol, who in their right mind would ever want one of those, if they even existed. Even with super high density platters, 720RPM is just to slow to get any decent performance out of it

I've seen an old computer that advertized 64 MB of video RAM and 16 MB of System ROM
I'm assuming them meant RAM not ROM. Even in that case, a 64MB Video card would be useless with 16MB RAM because there would be swapping all the time.

My point is, these aren't just typos; they were definitely typed up by people who know nothing about computers.

I read a classified ad I a local newspaper, saying they had a K6 2500 MHz for sale!!! and it was about half a year ago! I thought all we had was the 1.5 GHz P4 then.

and 20GB RAM and 64MB HDD was too good!

part of a pricing tarrif for mobile phones lists "1 wap page = 1KG" this would prove most problematic as the more you surfed the heavier your phone would become. best case, the phone gets too heavy to use. worst case, as it is only getting heavier and non larger then it's density increases so much it becomes a black hole and swallows you and evry thing else in the area up!! (this marketing material was sent to my store directly form BT Cellnet)

Although it has a lot of good ideas, beer doesn't know anything about computers!!!

This happened not more than a year and a half ago.

once I lost a customer because I told him Pentiums were phased out and offered him a Celeron.

he was pretty insistant on buying a Pentium.

then he went to another guys who sold him a Pentium he wanted. I just called him for a follow-up and he said he already bought a Pentium system! I was utterly surprised and asked him whether i could see the system, he allowed me to. he also showed me the reciept.

it was a Cyrix M2, for which the man had payed about Rs.3000 (approx $65) more just because he was told it was a <b>Pentium</b> and the reciept said:

<b><font color=red>Pentium M2 233 MHz</font color=red></b>!

What do I say?

Well I dunno if this really counts, but I was at a local pawn shop a few weeks back. I was up there with a friend who was pawning off some of his old junk. I was browsing around the collection on items for sale and noticed an old 286 Based computer with 14" mono-chrome monitor and no other obvious specs. Lol, it had two 5 1/4 floppy driver and it probably didn't even have a hard drive what so ever. So I guess the pawn shop owner was looking at this computer at a vintage point of view, cause the price tag on it was 500$ !!!! He even put a not on it saying in bold print "Monitor Included!!" <sarcasm> Wow, he's gonna lose the farm by throwing the monitor in at that already low price </sarcasm>

Sad thing is it was gone when I came back a few weeks later :frown: I really hope no one was suckered into buying that box. I dunno how many times I've had nieghboors calling me to get them on the internet cause they just got a "good deal" on a computer. By the time I get over there its an Apple II or a 286 IBM with DOS 4.0, and they are sayign they only got it for 300$. Always sucks to give them the great news of them being gyped...
