Do i need a dvi-d dual link cable for radeon hd 6770?one screen

Hi,
I have several times tryed to install a adeon HD 6770 graphicals card in my HP Pavilion Elite m9760 computer. The computer starts OK but when the Windo should turn up I recive a black screen. The power is 500W, which sould be OK, and a cable is connected to the graphics card. The motherboard is IPIBL-LA, perhaps it is not compatible. The cable I use is for the single DVI and came with the monitor. I would be thankful for all recommendations and ideas of how to get the normal screen back.

  1. Unless your monitor is over the resolution of 1920x1200, or 120hz, a single link DVI cable is all you need.

Will the system boot to the desktop in Safe Mode? If so, it is a driver issue. If not, we can do more advanced troubleshooting.

    Please clarify.

The system does not boot in Safe Mode. However, it boots with blue background until Windows starts. I can hear that the process is going on and I can log in, but I see nothing.
