Do i need a dvi-d dual link cable for radeon hd 6770?one screen

Hi,
I have several times tryed to install a adeon HD 6770 graphicals card in my HP Pavilion Elite m9760 computer. The computer starts OK but when the Windo should turn up I recive a black screen. The power is 500W, which sould be OK, and a cable is connected to the graphics card.The motherboard is IPIBL-LA, perhaps it is not compatible. The cable I use is for the single DVI and came with the monitor. I would be thankful for all recommendations and ideas of how to get the normal screen back.

Unless your monitor is over the resolution of 1920x1200, or 120hz, a single link DVI cable is all you need.

Will the system boot to the desktop in Safe Mode? If so, it is a driver issue. If not, we can do more advanced troubleshooting.

Please clarify.

Please clarify.

The system does not boot in Safe Mode. However, it boots with blue background until Windows starts. I can hear that the process is going on and I can log in, but I see nothing.
