I'm looking for a book that focuses strictly on Linux system commands. I don't need a 3 inch thick bible of any sorts, since I wouldn't understand 90% of it.
I found one book at a local bookstore titled Linux System Commands, by Patrick Volkerding & Kevin Reichard. But I found this book too vague & lacking descriptions of many commands & their respective switches.
Has anyone come across a great lil book that lists linux commands (with their associated switches) & what these commands are used for?
xman gives you a sectioned reference to available man pages, which list most commands along with switches, syntax and descriptions. info is a similar console tool for info pages, while the Gnome help tool has both.
It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's good for seeing what's there and what it can do.
Linux in a Nutshell by O'Reilly covers the core commands available on common Linux distrobutions. It isn't a scaled-down quick reference of common commands, but a complete reference containing all user, programming, administration, and networking commands.
