Would anyone like to offer an opinion on the quality of images obtained
using a canon 100-400mm IS f4.5-5.6 lens on a canon 10D camera. I am
thinking of purchasing a 100-400 to use on my 10d.

I feel it's an excellent lens, if a teeny bit soft at the long end, wide
open.

Just bought one and here are the some of the results of my first outing with
the lens. All of these were done hand held using my Canon 300D.
I think the my results are somewhat varied but I don't think that's due to
the lens. I'm sure it has more to do with the photographer (note I
neglected to check the ISO before shooting and left the camera at 800 -
:-/ ) and the fact that this was my first time using a lens as long as the
100-400. As with anything new, some practice may be required. ;-)

Thanks for the links and the great samples. Have you noticed any problems
with color fringing on the edges of any of your tests?

About all I've had time to do with the pics we run then through Capture One,
reduce their size, and post them to PBase. Short of that I haven't even
looked at the pics.
