Is HP pulling a fast one on the Radeon 7770?

Hi.

Need your help...

Bought a new HP Pavilion HPE h8-1360t, 12 GB, with their AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB card and 600w PSU.

Ran the WEI on the whole Windows 7 system which came out to only a strange 5.9 with an Intel i7-3770 CPU. Then I also ran AIDA 64 which reported a core clock speed of 300 Mhz, instead of 1 Ghz that I think is the standard for the 7770.

Not feeling happy, I then went for the 3D Mark basic trial and here are the results...

What do you think? Am I interpreting the results incorrectly?

Is HP playing fair? I noticed that the card had "AMD Radeon" printed on the center of the GPU Fan, not 1Ghz.

Thanks,

SN :)

  1. It looks like 3dmark and aida are pulling the idle or 2d light usage clocks. Try downloading GPU-Z and see what it tells you your clocks are.

Windows 7 benchmark base the results on the lowest result only, probably your HD is 5.9 and the rest of the system get that score also... nothing to worry about. that is very common.

You must check the clocks when the card is in use, run a benchmark program and while running it check the clocks again.

Have you already upgraded your graphics card drivers to the latest version? that changes a lot the graphical score.
  3. Hi again.

Used the latest rev of GPU-Z:

When I used 3D Mark 11, I was only able to see about 17 fps? How come?

    TIA,

    SN :)

BTW - Do I have to use HP's Drivers or could I get them direct from AMD? Do you have a link?
  4. forget about FPS. run a game. watch gpu-z and see if the card ramps up.

That screenshot of GPU-Z is exactly what it should be.

3DMark 11 is designed to really push a system. 17FPS isn't all that bad honestly. You will get noticeably better FPS in actual games vs a stress test like 3DMark. You should be able to use AMD drivers without any issues.
  6. @ish416 and others...

Is there a program (preferably portable) that I can use to see the FPS while playing a game?
Also, what is the offfical AMD driver download link for the 7770?

Many thanks to all for the heads-up. I feel better now.

  8. Download and run FRAPS to see FPS in game.
  9. Here is the link to AMD drivers ... http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

Fraps is usually what I also use to see my FPS in game.
