support for dvd

A friend of mine has a cd/dvd player in his computer. He cannot run dvd, no codec, etc. What software does he need in order to play dvd on his computer. Simple proogie please

Need to install drivers for it and then install player software. He doesn't have an installation CD for the drive? If not, download drivers from manufacturer's website. Download player according to preference. WinDVD is nice, so is PowerDVD.

the cd part works fine its just when he tries to play a dvd, he gets that message.
