More about radeon 7970
  1. And yes i am a true noob this is my first build and have no idea about overclocking
  2. First, don't multipost the same thing, which is probably why the other one got closed. Or you bumped it.

What power supply are you running exactly?

EDIT: I hope you didn't pay too much, because that processor is terrible for gaming.
  3. 850 WAtt seasonic
  4. paid 214$ for the amd 8150
  5. just did a bench test for sleeping dogs of max graphics got avrage: 28.9 fps and a max: 61.6 fps
  6. Sleeping Dogs is a pretty intensive game, but my 6950 pulled about that hard.

Check the heat of your graphics cards using MSI Afterburner.
  7. This may help with LA Noire (a copy/paste from my Steam review) --

The game engine is capped at 30fps. It looks and plays fine at 30fps, since there isn't a lot of action, but frame dips can make it unplayable. After much experimentation, I found a workaround. Run in windowed mode (this may not be necessary for everyone, but it is for my crossfire setup since windowed mode disables crossfire) and set it to single threaded. A single thread from my i5-2500k and a hd5850 is more than enough for a constant 30fps at highest settings.
  8. its reading 72c
  9. Are you playing a game? Or is it just sitting there?
  10. mobilelubes - I think your other thread got closed because you never responded to any posts and it soon deteriorated into an AMD vs. Intel fight.

What version of drivers are you using?
  11. Are you using the latest CAP profiles for crossfire? And dont get discouraged by statements like that CPU is terrible for gaming. It isnt as good as what Intel has to offer, but to say its terrible for gaming is incorrect. There shouldnt be a game on this planet that you couldnt play at 60+ FPS with your combo of hardware. Unless of course its capped. I believe an update came out for LA Noire that lifts that cap, altho its been awhile since ive seen anything LA Noire related.

You are right, I shouldn't have worded it like so. Like what you said, its not as formidable as the Intel offering, but its a processor nonetheless, and it processes stuff.

And he is right, your setup right now should be able to play everything on the highest it goes.
  13. Driver Packaging Version 8.982-120727a-144945C-ATI
    Catalyst Version 12.8
    Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
    2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1253
    2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
    Direct3D Version 9.14.10.0924
    OpenGL Version 6.14.10.11762
AMD VISION Engine Control Center Version 2012.0806.1213.19931
    AMD Audio Driver Version 7.12.0.7708
  14. oh and i got the temp reading while i was bench testing sleeping dogs at max graphics.
  15. Well, then that's not all that hot. And you are running the latest drivers. Are both cards at around 72C? Sometimes one gets hotter than the other.
  16. Ill ask again, are you using the latest CAP crossfire profiles from the AMD website? Also, crossfire and SLI arent friendly with every single game. Make sure you have the latest CAP profiles and if it doesnt change, disable one of your 7970s and rebenchmark.
  17. ya i got the latest driver the amd control center has an auto detect and it says i got the latest one and in the afterburner program it only gives me temp reading for gpu1
  18. whats CAP??? sorry for sounding dumb :s
  19. whats CAP??? sorry for sounding dumb :s
  20. Goto www.amd.com select the driver for your cards, OS etc. On the same page like right below the download for the latest catalyst drivers is the CAP profiles. Hard to miss.
  21. ok just downloaded the cap thing what next?
  22. On the catalyst drivers with crossfire, you have to make sure AI (Antialiising I think it was) is turned off. When you run the AI setting it can wreck havoc. I ran into that years ago and it had the same issue. That's an easy check.
  23. Install them, and then it allows you to choose premade profiles for games.
  24. sorry i dont understand with i have to do with profile games???

just ran the bench test on OC at 3900mhz, and i got less fps then when it was not oc :s
  26. ???
  27. Not sure what you OCed to 3900 mhz but that isnt the purpose of the CAP profiles.
