Hello everyone. I have the following 5 year old setup
core 2 duo E6750 @ 2.66 Mhz(stock speed)
4 gb ram ddr2
mobo p5k(p35)
gpu 8800 GTX 768 mb.

is it worth it to upgrade to an evga 460 gtx 1mb( a friend of mine is selling one to me for 100€)? Will i also need to change my cpu to see any difference? Right now i can only spare money for the gpu. Or is it best to spend the money on a new cpu and get a better gpu later? Getting a new setup is not an option btw.

Hi.

Bit pricey for a friend i think. See them second hand in Holland for 75 euro . . .

Well he is not a close friend :)
Anyway if I get this card will I have a perfomance boost despite the E6750?

It should be a nice performance boost for sure.

That's bit more then I'd pay for a used GTX 460.

What resolution are you using?

It will work but why not overclock? After all it is a free performance boost.

I forgot to mention that I 'm using 1650x1050 resolution. Thats my monitors max.
So I guess the best option is to upgrade the gpu and overclock the cpu?

Both, you can get an easy overclock for a small boost on the cpu on top of the new 460.

460 should fit nicely with your res. but you have to oc your cpu for sure. from my personal experiance my e7500 at stock (2.93ghz) did bottleneck the card. in some cases i got lower performance compared to my old gts250 but for games that are gpu intensive like crysis the card perform just as it should be.

Hey renz496, I know this might be weird, but with your setup can I ask what you 3DMark at?

11. Just final score though. I can only pull like a 3200, and I feel like its kinda low.

^ it depends on the cooler. afaik blower type cooler are very noisy when the fan running at full speed

Ouch that makes my score look terrible. I might have to get another 460.

And your 2600K is clocked higher than mine. I might have to start overclocking again to see what kind of scores I can get.

I think the only upgrade I would do at this point though is add another 460 for cheap. It would work with the power supply and I don't want to spend very much. My cousin will probably get rid of his eventually.

I used to get close to 6k with my 6950 in here. Wish I still had it in here.

Is that a Corsair H70 you rigged up to your GTX 560 Ti?
September 21, 2012 6:41:01 PM

I had that card for a while, and then in 2010 (I think) I upgraded to the 460 GTX 768mb version which I sold on ebay for $70 2 weeks ago. It's tough to say how your CPU will handle it, it'll probably bottle neck but I can't see it being perceptible. One thing I will say is that that GTX 460 has been the best overclockable card I have ever owned, by far.
