I did a full scan and the mess. enable your ati adapter using the display man.came up, Does this affect the computer? How?

My computer has started to freeze up. I did a virus scan,disc clean up,defragmentation and these did not help.When doing the full scan as oppassed to the quick scan the message, enable your ATI adapter using the display manager ,came up .Compuer usually freezes when game playing or graphics are on the screen. It is a 5year old Gateway
