I'm new to Vampire and was wondering the difference between Masquerade
and Requiem. I have a copy of "the vampire players guide - a
sourcebook for VAMPIRE: The Masquerade". and a free small booklet
entitled "VAMPIRE: The Requiem - Free Introductory Scenario". The
scene is called "Mary's Child".

I was wondering the difference between the two games. Is there
anohter book besides the vampire players guide - a sourcebook for
VAMPIRE: The Masquerade" that I should get a copy of in order to play
Masquerade ?

Also, is there a site I can get some sample scenario's ?

To play Vampire: The Masquerade, you'll need to track down a copy of the
old Vampire: The Masquerade Revised corebook. It's green, with a red
rose on the cover -- you can tell it's Revised because it's hardcover
and the text on the back starts with "There will come a time when the
curse of the One Above will not be tolerated further...." It's out of
print, but should be relatively easy to find at this point.

To play Vampire: The Requiem, you'll need two books -- one is called The
World of Darkness, and is blue with a blurry picture of a person walking
down an alley, taken from behind, and the other is called Vampire: The
Requiem, and is red (shiny red) and has a picture of a dead hand with
rose petals sprinkling past.

As to which one you should get... I honestly think Vampire: The Requiem
is the better game -- the mechanics are better, and so the background.
Also, it's the newer one, so it'll be getting support in the future
while Vampire: The Masquerade has all the supplements it's ever going to
get at this point. But V:tM is probably less expensive if you just want
the corebook.

The quick answer to this is that the rest of the introductory chronicle
is available for download here:

It builds off Mary's Child.

For Vampire: The Masquerade... Googling might do you good, but you
Vampire doesn't do great with pre-written scenarios.

They are similar, but not quite the same. Requiem is the new one and the only
one that will get any supporting material in the future. It has only been out
for a little over a month, so we're all still digesting the nuances.

The scope of Requiem feels smaller and more personal to me. The emphasis is
individual vampires rather than the grand sweep of world events. Metaplot has
been eliminated. History is fuzzy due to a sort of delirium that comes over
vampires when they enter torpor.

In order to play Vampire: the Masquerade, you need the core rule book of the
same name. Unfortunately, it is no longer in print. You might be able to
find it at a used book store or on ebay, or perhaps even from someone here.

A google search on "Vampire:the Masquerade scenarios" turned up all kinds of
sites.

I, and my gaming group, are of of the exact opposite opinion. THere
are soem neat ideas, but the more we familiarize ourselves with the
new system, the less interested we are in actually playtesting it, let
alone switching.

While, V:tR is the only game with new stuff coming out, it seems to be
coming out slowly. Meanwhile V:tM has ten years worth of stuff out
there on eBay, in used book stores, and the discount bin at the game
store.

Pre-gen senarios don't work too well with either. The game is too much
about character interactions and usually after any substantial game
play, these interactions cause the scene to change too much to have a
second senario deal with it. You may find one or two that work well,
and they're good to get things rolling, but after that you'll probably
ahve to do things yourself or have them change cities. Also, most seem
to be made with begining characters in mind, so you'll try one with
expereinced characters and they'll come across an encounter and act
totally different than the senario expects (not that PCs don't do this
anyway) because they're not the inexperienced characters the senario
was written for.
