First Build HTPC Need Help and Suggestions

November 17, 2012 4:31:40 PM

Hey guys

I'm planning on building my first HTPC in the near future. It will be used on a regular basis for Netflix, watching twitch.tv streams, and it will probably see some light gaming (Castle Crashers, PS2 Emulation, Super Meat Boy, etc). Won't be playing anything that requires too much graphical processing power.

I'm hoping to spend sub $400 CDN. I won't be building this HTPC until Q1 of 2013.

CPU and graphics:
A6-5400k ($66.99)

OR

A4-5300 ($46.81)

Motherboard:
ASRock FM2A75 Pro4m mATX ($89.99)

Memory:
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B 8GB DDR3-1600 ($35.99)
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59431&vpn=CMZ8GX3M2A1...

SSD:
Crucial M4 120GB SSD ($99.99)

Case:
Nmedia HTPC-5000B Desktop Media Centre Case ($59.99)
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=35507&vpn=HTPC-5000B&manu...

PSU:
Rosewill 350W ATX Power Supply ($29.99)
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681...

Total: $382.94 or $362.76 Depending on CPU

I also really like the Fractal Node 304 case http://ncix.com/products/?sku=75056&vpn=Node%20304&manu..., but it only supports ITX and there aren't many FM2 ITX boards out on the market yet.

My main question is, which CPU would suit my needs? And are all the parts decent enough.

Thanks!
