Do you think the firmware update from Yamaha for the 2100EZ model will work well for the 2100E? If not, where might i find an update for my model? (2100E)
Also, i have a problem that no applications i use see my drive as being able to burn at 10x for CDRW. It's rated at 16x10x40x. Both EZ CD Creator 4 and 5 and Nero 5.555555555 say the CDRW maximum is 8x, not 10x. Any ideas? Thanks

Be careful. I got a firmware update from Yamaha, and they seemed very specific on which drives the updates were for.

Make sure you are using a 10X CD-RW disk as well. Most burning programs can tell what kind of media you have in the drive and they set the drive speeds based on that as well.

Yup, it's the "high speed" cd that came with the drive. supposed to be 10x compatible or they're morons.
btw i have updated the firmware since the original message, no effect.

the latest official firmware for this drive is 1.0n and it is specific for the ide version I don't recommend you try the scsi version on it it could lead to problems down the road

yeah i know... that's the version i have, and i am using an ide/eide drive. hell, even yamaha doesnt know what's the matter. they suggested updating all the drivers for my ide and chipset... problem is my motherboard has only been out for about 2 monthes. :) no updates available yet. they told me to contact their phone tech support.. maybe that'll help.

if your mobo chipset is an intel one , go to the intel site install the inf utility and then install the intel application accelerator for your chipset this will update the ide drivers
