Need advice on gaming build for HDTV

Hello, Im looking for some expert advice on building a gaming system for my living room. It will run through my home theater system which consists of a 5.1 surround sound as well as a 60"plasma HDTV. I would like the case to be very quiet and discreet looking.

Budget: $1500- $2000 willing to go up a few hundred if need be.

Games: I would like to be able to play Skyrim, Farcry 3, and Crysis 3 on the best settings that I can

I prefer Intel and Nvidia, as well as fairly straight forward setup that is user friendly, I would be interested in some slight overclocking.

I plan on purchasing this system starting this month but piece by piece over the next 4-6 months.

I live in the states to buy parts

Looking for the best config, whether SLI or single card with ability for further room to expand down the road to keep up with future games

Thank you for your help

  1. Don't piecemeal your purchases. You want to test your system with all the parts. You only have 30 days to return them, and 7 days for the cpu (newegg). Here's a few suggestions: $70 shipped $74 shipped (use the 300w as a spare) $130 shipped $220 $70 $247 shipped $50 $75 $14 shipped

Get an unopened copy of windows 7 pro or ultimate on craigslist if you can. They run about $70-80. I'm skipping windows 8; I don't have a touchscreen monitor or other device to use it.
  2. Thanks for the good advice on not going piece by piece, if thats that case then Ill take 2 months to save up and buy all together.

So you think that this set up that you provided will be able to play a Crysis 3 level game at max settings? Im a little worried the graphics card wont handle it very well.
  3. You should be fine. You're looking for about 60 fps.
