Will PCI-E 2.0 card work in 3.0 slot if

I'm buying ASUS P8H77-V motherboard and a Core i3-3220 processor.
So the motherboard has PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot, but the processor does not support PCI-E 3.0.
I know that PCI-E 2.0 Cards work in 3.0 slots at 2.0 speed, but the question is would PCI-E 2.0 GPU work in 3.0 slot even if my processor does not support 3.0?

PCI Express controller won’t support PCIe Gen 3.0 add-on cards.

When such cards will be installed, they will work in PCI Express 2.0 mode, which cuts in half the bandwidth available to them.
