How do I download an updated modem driver?

Hello.I have an agere system PCI soft modem.It was
working well on win xp and win me until I canged my
previous motherboard(GA-7VA Chipset VIA) to (ASUS A7N8X-X
Chipset NVIDIA).Now the modem works in win me but not in
win xp(I've tried many drivers).in xp it makes sounds but
after some seconds the sounds get odd and strange and
finally it disconnects.In win me I used windows update
and there was an agere driver available but apparently I
can't do this in xp cause my modem doesn't connect.Is
there a way to download the driver in win me and then
install in xp?I tried searching in update and download
parts of microsoft site but it said it can't find any
agere driver.I only want microsoft driver for my
modem.someone knows a solution?
