DirectX 9.0a

I have Windows XP - SP1 installed and it was running
without any problems.
Since I dont use my scanner very much, I only plug it in,
when I need it(PnP - USB).
This was never a problem - when I plugged it in, Windows
used the standard drivers, that are part of the OS. I
never installed the drivers from the CD, because they
were made for Windows 98 and the Windows XP drivers
worked just fine.
Now, I bought a DVD-wrighter from Dick Smith, installed
it and there was no problem at all. But then I installed
the Software, that came with it (Ulead DVD Movie Factory
and Nero 6 with Nero vision express 2 se, nero showtime,
nero toolkit and nero cover designer. Everything
installed correctly and worked fine.
But since then, when I plugged in the scanner, Windows
couldn't find any drivers anymore (the ones that are part
of the OS). It could not find drivers for printer or
other devices. The ones, that were installed prior to
this worked fine.
I put my recovery CD in and installed Windows freshly.
Everything worked good, until I installed DirectX 9.0a,
which is part of Ulead DVD Movie Factory and Nero Vision.
From here on I had the same problem.
So I started again - put Windows on fresh - but this time
I checked the Internet for updates on DirectX and found
DirectX 9.0b - so I installed only this - no other
Software - and my driver-database was gone again.
Windows never gave me an error-message at all - it just
wont find the drivers anymore - "no drivers found" - and
it wants to search the internet for driver - tried this -
no luck.
Windows never played up, it just can't find the Windows
drivers as soon as I install DirectX 9.0. My system has
DirectX 8.1 installed and that causes no problems at all.
Now, I have reinstalled Windows again and await your
advice how to tackle this problem. For your convenience I
have attached a text-file, that lists everything in my
computer (exported Systeminformation) before DirectX 9.0a.
I have Norton Anti Virus 2003 installed(enabled and
working OK), but no Firewall (disabled Windows Firewall -
that does not work with Net2Phone).
