Att router/modem 2701 hg-b how to connect with earthlink

Hello,
I just started using earthlink yesterday I have their modem connected & it works fine. I have an ATT router/modem (2701 HG-B) I tried to use that instead of the one sent to me because we have a couple of laptops & my kids use them to do their homework. Its not working, what am I doing wrong? I connected it the same way it use to be when we had a different internet company.

Call Earthlink, or check on their support page to find out how to connect a router to their modem. Why not just use their Router? Is it not wireless?
