Dual monitor problems :/

so i have a 24inch 1920x1080 monitor and a 17inch (i think) 1440x900 monitor and firstly, on the bigger monitor theres black bars around the edge. 2ndly because im using hdmi on my main monitor it conflicting with my headset so i can talk on skype. please help
