You can play at low settings. You'd need a new system to play BF3 on Ultra fluently. Preferably a second or third generation Core i5 CPU with either a Radeon 7870/GeForce GTX 660-Ti or better to get Ultra. Of course, this is a assuming 1080p. The resolution you play has a huge impact on performance.

To run BF3 on ultra smoothly, you need on the CPU side:

A Phenom II x6 or an FX-8150 or better from AMD
or
An i5-2500k or better from Intel (some of intel's older i7 chips may do it too but there would be no point in buying one)

And on the GPU side, thinking of 1080p, you need a GTX 670 or HD 7970 or better.
