Computer Boots to 640 by 480 display

Hello, My dual monitor 64 bit system was recently updated and now boot to a display of about 600 by 500 pixels. The edges of letters are so indistinct that they are hard to read. The computer then tells me that this is wrong and would I like for the computer to fix it.
If I say yes or if I try to reset it my self the result is the same...The monitor goes to black and stays that way. Is my vedeo card dead?

One of the first things I did was to check the drivers and found that they were properly installed. The solution turned out to be the video card itself was inoperable. The operating system, of course, told me it was operating properly. The problem was solved by replacing the video card and now all is well.
