Have you installed the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers for WinXP? <A HREF="http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2" target="_new">http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2</A> Is your sound card functional? You might have to force install the drivers off the CD that came with the card.

According to the Microsoft Knowledge Base, an Error Code of 28 means that the drivers for a particular device are not completely installed.

When a device driver for a device is not available, Device Manager displays the device as unknown, and places it in the Other devices folder.

Thanks for your advice, yes i have sound, but i didn't and can't seem to load 4 in 1 drvrs correctly. The win xp 4/1 drvr seems to only load 1 thing which doesn't correct my problem. Kinda hesitating to install 4/1 on xp, because it is running decent and i don't want to rock the boat!!When i view device mgr. in the "devices by connection" view everything in there has to do with the sound card. Just can't stand to see those yellow question marks in there.. And afraid to upgrade to soundblaster series soundcards because of conflicts w/ via chipsets and win xp drvrs.( Guess i read to many of these forums) Thanks Again.. JW

<font color=red>Code 28
The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver
Solution button: Reinstall Driver
This code means the device was not installed completely.
To resolve this issue, follow the recommended solution. If that does not work, try removing the device from Device Manager and using the Add New Hardware wizard to redetect it. You may need to obtain updated drivers if the error still occurs. <font color=red>

<font color=green>it has to do with mob<font color=green>
