Approximate Purchase Date: december 14th - december 21st 2012

Budget Range: $1000-$1200 before rebates, shipping, taxes.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: High setting High FPS gaming , school work, internet.

Are you buying a monitor: no

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg

Location: City, State/Region, Country - Tacoma, Washington, USA

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU and NVIDIA GPU

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Eventually

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: Looking for something like this:

OS: Windows 8 64 bit
Processor: 3rd gen Intel i7 processor
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Video Memory: 2 GB
Video Card: nVidia GeForce gtx 600 series

Dell has something similar for $1200 but the GPU is a GT 640. I know if I put it together I should be able to get a better price and a better GPU.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:
Bought a dell 5 or so years ago and I think it is about time to upgrade to fit my gaming needs. My wife and I also fight over the computer so she can keep the old dell while I get my new upgrade :p

Current PC specs:
windows vista 64 bit
intel core 2 quad Q9550 @2.83 GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GTS 450 1024MB

Logged into Planetside 2 this morning and needless to say the FPS sucked. I am not surprised as my FPS wasn't to great in the beta to begin with... So I would love to be able to run Planetside 2 on maxed out settings with 60-100 FPS during extremely populated fights.

On that budget - build your own. Don't buy Dell crap. That GT640 will get you nowhere in gaming, plus the i7 and 16GB of RAM won't help much either.

Try something like this:

I went a bit over budget but you're looking at a system like this.

Not to mention OEM manufacturers like Dell use proprietary form factors that make upgrading extremely difficult or in some cases near impossible.
