I just recently did a reformat to my c: drive and began re-installing windows me. Everything goes well until I go to reinstall the software for my creative labs live platinum sound card. Once I do this, from control panel/system/device manager, the following problems arise:
1) i get "red x's" over both my cd-burner and dvd-rom drives
it says this is happening because primary ide controller (dual fifo) has been dynamically disabled
2)under hard disk controllers....both primary and secondary ide controllers (dual fifo) have the "yellow exlamation points" next to them....the error messages says..."this device cannot work properly until your computer is restarted"....when when i do that ...it just restarts over and over and over
Like I said, the reinstall goes fine until i install the drivers for my creative labs product (which are from the factory cd)
How are your drives set up? Is the DVD-ROM and CD Burner plugged into the same IDE controller? If they are, have you checked to see if the sound card is conflicting with that channel?
If you go into device manager and check the properties of "Computer". That should give you a list of devices used on your computer and what IRQ's they have been assigned. If you notice one or both of your IDE channels are using the same IRQ as you sound card, that could explain the problem.
