I updated from win98FE to winXP pro. I went through and
updated all of the drivers that came on my motherboard
disc (matsonic) and even downloaded drivers off the net
from the via and matsonic websites. I'm guessing they
don't include a USB driver for XP, or maybe theres a
different reason why the computer isn't recognizing the
USB ports. It can't be that they're not connected because
i plugged a cord from the usb to my digital camera and it
powered on but the Plug and Play didn't work and neither
did the add hardware and there was still no sign of any
usb devices in the device manager... sombody please help
me.

If my memory is correct, USB 1.0 and 1.1 have been part of Windows since the
98 Versions. Firewire and USB 2.0 upgrades were included in SP1 [now SP1a].
This leads to the question; have you installed SP1a and the other updates?
