No Desktop after updating video driver

Hello,
After a clean install of windows 7 all worked fine but when the generic adapter driver was replaced by the recommended Nvidia driver because there is no desktop, taskbar etc. windows flag button doesn't work. I think the features of the Nvidia 545 are wasted if I use the generic driver.

get into safe mode and uninstall the driver. Then reinstall it in safe mode.
