I only build a total new system about every five years. It’s time. The ROG board I have chosen has great expansion possibilities and my old Asus ROG Commando board is still going strong, So Asus it is again.
I am looking for real world experiences with the following:
SSD Drives
Memory Configurations

Notes:
1.The case is HUGE and has 2-200mm, 1-140mm case fans and room for several more. I think 1 more 120 or 140mm at the front to suck in air (has worked well in the past) will be good enough to not need liquid cooling. I do not like the fan noise of liquid coolers (if I change to quieter ones the loss in CFM will defeat the purpose of LC), so with all these fans, a decent heatsink cooler (I hate the huge, heavy ones), two fans on the 7970 and ram with heatspreaders, the temps should be fine. I also don’t like the possibility of leaks if I move the case around.
I game, but not as serious or long periods as some. I do run high end programs like Photoshop, so ram speed and quantity, and SSD write speeds are an important factor.
2. The board will hold 64GBs of 2400mhz ram, enough to think about a Ram Drive setup(would run at Light Speed), but they are said to be unstable and if I forget to run a backup before every shutdown, I could lose some valuable files. Anyone who has created a “masterpiece” in Photoshop and then loses the files, knows the agony.
I have been told a similar story about the OCZ Revo drives. Almost double the read/write of an SSD(but not much faster than two Sata3 SSDs in Raid (0)) and again unstable enough to need a constant backup. The bygone days of having to save a Word file every five minutes gives me the Shakes!
Of the Sata3 SSDs, the Corsair Neutron shows in more than one test sight that the LAMD controller is the best when taxed heavily but drops down significantly when going down to idle. So, I will likely go with the two Corsair Force GT ones in raid. If anyone has any experience with the Neutrons, please let me know.
3. As for ram choices:
The G.Skill is probably the best choice for 32 GB.
Mushkin is a great red color to match the board slots, but like the Corsair Dominator GT (4x4GB) that would take up all the ram slots. I have read that with that many ram slots filled, it taxes the board and CPU and creates more heat, so (4 x 8GB) is better.
The Patriot Black Mamba also matches the board and Patriot makes high quality ram although the latencies are higher than I would like.
The Corsair Dominator GT has great low latencies and excellent heat spreaders and could easily be OC’d to 2400 and has 1.5V voltage.
The Corsair Dominator Platinum 32 GB 2400mhz kit is the best looking, best quality, and also the highest price.
Any comments and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
