I just arrived from the most important shoot in my life and found
almost all of my files my raw files incomplete or corrupted. I am
shooting with a Fuji S2. I was shooting for the first time directly to
my laptop through a 15' firewire cable with Fuji Camera shooting
software. All the thumbnails in FinePixViewer are fine and many
previews in Photoshop CS are normal, but when I convert my images with
Fuji RAW File Converter LE, EX or Photoshop CS RAW Converter, they are
incomplete and filled with black. The visible part of the image varies
randomly image to image from 0 to 100% of the image. The black part of
my picture is always the left side. The sync speed is not the cause of
the problem since I was shooting at 1/125 s and the thumbnails are
complete. Does someone had the same problem or can help me solving it?

No help to offer, sorry. But I wanted to express my sympathy,
anyway.
I've never had problems with RAW files from my S2. However, I haven't
done anything but the lightest playing with the Camera Shooting
Software.
This probably isn't the best time to mention the conjunction of "the
most important shoot in my life" and "shooting for the first time...",
eh?

I'll be doing a small fashion show in a couple weeks. I was toying with
the idea of off-camera storage and even having a projector put the
images up as I shoot. For this I would need a longer USB cable
("repeater"? IAC the kind that actively repeats the signal for long
cable lengths).
But your experience is telling me: "whoa. KISS". I'll just buy a 2 GB
CF and get on with it.

You are absolutely right! I tested my firewire connexion at home with
a few pictures but it was not sufficient to use it in an important
shoot. I found one third of my files still intact. It will be enough
to have something acceptable. I learned from this experience.
