Internet connection xharing

Hi, i hope this is the right section
i have 2 computers, a windows 7 laptop and a vista desktop. i have ICS turned on on the laptop, and the 2 computers hooked up with a ethernet cable. however, i have no internet connection with the vista desktop. What am i doing wrong?

are you using a crossover network cable?

i believe so. this same cable used to work just fine, but now is giving me problems. if i use the cable to hook up to the internet, then it works just fine.
