CRT guy switching to LCD, SOS Help!

Hello friends,

My pair of 19 inch CRT monitors died yesterday after a long 14 year of service. While the funeral will be completed today with gun salute, I need some serious suggestion on what LCD monitor to buy.

I have Googled, checked stores etc. BUT somehow I am not being able to find something that resembles the CRT quality OR is it they do not display the hi-end models.

I am ready to change my graphics card too.

Please suggest me what LCD (With LED back-lighting ofcourse) monitor should I buy.

I am a software developer, so most of the time I type, code, do bit of graphics. I do not play games.

My budget $250 - $300.

Thanks in advance!

If you really want CRT quality from your monitor, you're gonna have to spend more than $250-300 most likely...

LCD monitors really aren't quite there yet in my opinion... you need an IPS display for the color/contrast comparable to a CRT but you need 120Hz refresh rate to have responsiveness comparable to a CRT.

And there are no 120 Hz IPS displays out there that I'm aware of. Manufacturers have gotten lazy with monitor tech.

Since you don't game, I'd recommend going with IPS over 120 Hz, but I'm not aware of any IPS displays in the $250-300 range worth recommending (someone else may know of some).
