Need a new graphics card for gw2 ($150 budget)

Gw2 recently just came out and I am looking to upgrade my graphics card. Willing to fork out money for a PSU but if possible I want to keep the budget under $200 (with both PSU and gfx c). Looking for some help/opinion/advice on what to get and need to upgrade (am really clueless about these things)

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: asap and preferably below $150

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: moderate gaming, should be able to run gw2 smoothly

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY:
256MB Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (ATI)

have a bestec psu 250w

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS:
cpu:AMD Athlon II X4 640;Propus 45nm Technology

memory:4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz

motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION 2A99 (CPU 1)

harddrives:699GB Seagate ST375052 8AS SCSI Disk Device (ATA)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: none but preferably trustworthy ones

OVERCLOCKING: Yes / No / Maybe SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Yes / No / Maybe

I was wondering if I got a new PSU with around 380w+ if it could run gw2 smoothly with these gfx cards and my specs:

Radeon HD 7750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121633 or

Radeon HD 6670 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102988

here are some PSUs I've been looking at :

Antec Neo Eco 520W

Antec EarthWatts 380W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033

  1. I would get the 520 Watt PSU and get this Radeon 7770 instead:

    All the best!

Thanks for the input but I have a question, are there any major differences between these? (other than crossfirex)

Why do they make these artices if nobody read them?

I have read the article but I was making sure that my specs, etc had no problems with compatibility (because I'm a complete noob) or if there were other alternatives not covered in the article. Thank you anyways.
  3. The vapor x is suppose to cool better, but for a 7770, you'll probably never need it. My card is a lot like the other one (but mines MSI brand) and the highest I've ever seen it go was 60C, when my friend installed this stupid game and gave me some malware that locked it at 100% usuage for like an hour.
  4. This is it if you want to see my card, it's fantastic and I like MSI cards the best, up to you which one you would rather get though for the same price.

your system is not so bad and your current gpu has a pci-e interface so the 7770 should work and is your best option for your budget. The difference between the 2 cards you mentioned is the cooler, the vapor-x one has a better cooler but is not worth the 25$ differrence imo. And be sure that you have 2 slost free in you case/motherboard because these coolers use 2 slots. A question : is your pc custom?

oh haha I thought my system was pretty bad because sc2 can only barely run on lowest settings. I feel like the $25 difference is not worth it as well, and am gearing towards the 7770 without the cooler. To answer your last question my pc was not custom built and was bought at futureshop for I think around $300 2 years ago. The gfx c I took was from my old pc and put it inside my current one (think it was integrated graphics).

Last question, what site do you guys recommend shopping at or should I just look around and compare prices?

I am probably going to get a 7770 like you guys said , thanks to all who gave suggestions/recommendations.
  9. If you haven't made up your mind, if what I'm reading is correct, your budget is $200 for a PSU and GPU. My recommendations:

    Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1gb 256bit $135 shipped $120 after MIR

Antec NEO ECO 520 $47 shipped with promo code

Those two would put you at $182 shipped and $167 after MIR.

The 6850 stock is better than the 7770 and OC's well enough to reach 6870 performance. That PSU is pretty much future proof and has all the certs.

Mostly because of your gpu... But yeah it's not that freat it's just that an overclocked athlon II is not so bad but if you really want good performance in games, you will need to buy/build a new computer.

    Without the cooler?

Newegg is a good site or ncix.

Thank you for your advice and I will take this into consideration. As of now I'm still browsing through websites :D

sorry I worded that weird I meant the one without the better cooler. I'm not really picky on graphics but at the minimum I would want is smooth gameplay (no lag, random spikes, etc). Currently trying to decide between the 6850 and 7770.
