I understand PS CS has a raw file plugin but when I try to open any
raw files from my 7D I get the following message, "could not complete
your request because it is not the right kind of document."

You may need to download the latest plugin that included the 7D RAW decoder.

You will need to download an update to Camera Raw 2.4. When CS first
came out the 7D wasn't being made yet. Just go to the Adobe site and
download it. It comes with instructions on how to replace the older
plug-in.

I'm waiting for my 7D to come in. I'm guessing from this thread that PS 5.5
won't open its raw files?

By the way you can download Elements 3.0 from Adobe for a free 30 day
trial. Took about 12 minutes on cable modem (got about 320 KB/sec,
sustained). You can also DL the latest plugin for camera RAW files and
it will work with the trial.
Further, you can purchase the package for US$10.00 cheaper than the
boxed version.
I've cancelled my order for it. I'll be downloading it.

Yes, 3.0 does 16 bit with limited functions but just enough for me to be
happy.
