I have an 6850 how do you connect another monitor to it ?,it has 2x dvi an hdmi 1.4 an display port do i need something extra or just an dvi adapter?

look at the connector on the card and display device, and get a cable that makes the connections

Just connect your second monitor to one of your available ports on the HD6850. Depending on the monitor and the types of ports it supports (DVI, HDMI, VGA) will determine if you need anything "extra". Try to stick with digital connections (DVI, HDMI, etc) whenever possible.
