Brand new D70 problem

Last response: in Digital Camera

Broken camera or stupid newbie stunt. Took my new D70 out of the box,
mounted a lens, put a set of fresh lithiums in it and turned it on. The
language selection screen came up as promised, but the cursor control button
would not move to another selection nor would the "enter" button select and
send me on to the clock-set function. Tried both reset modes to no avail.
Sending it back tomorrow if I can't get it running tonight but would prefer
to have it fully functional instead<g>.

Hi,
Is the battery fully charged?
Tony

8.7 volts. Should be plenty. Three brand new CR2 lithiums.

Couldn't wait, eh? I would charge up the battery that comes with it and
give it another try, including another reset. There could be a problem with
the CR2's, or the holder for them. I mean, geez. The CR2's cost almost as
much as a second rechargeable battery.

If that doesn't do it try giving Nikon a call. Might be something simple.

Hi,
I have D70 too. Measuring voltage is not really a good way of checking
the batteries. Fully charge it and try. Also just try to shoot some
picture with default menu setting? You got picture?

Hi,
Also this is general rule I follow when I receive new shipment of
delicate electronic sutffs such as digicam, videocam or notebook, etc.
After unpacking it, I just leave it for 24 hours in room temperature.
Still weather is pretty cold and there can be condensation inside the
device for an instance. Mean time charge the battery and read the
manual. Then try it step by step.
Good luck,
Tony

Okay. I'll charge the battery (shee<g>) and give it another try tomorrow.
Just in a hurry to use my new camera; maybe not the best plan.

Yep. Use the "real" battery and it works just like it should<bg>.

Congrats! Enjoy your new camera, and I guess we've all learned a couple of
lessons here.

1. Be patient. It only takes a few hours to charge the battery, almost as
much time as it takes to review the manual. :-)

2. You cannot measure a battery with a simple voltmeter. You must use a
real battery checker, and any battery must be tested under load.

This whole thing also makes me wonder about that CR2 battery holder. I got
a second rechargeable battery and just put the CR2 adaptor away. The
battery that comes with the camera is less temperature sensitive, and lasts
longer.

Whatever, have fun.

Almost? I bought two of the Chinese knockoffs on E-Bay for under
twenty bucks and they work just as well as the one that came with it.
If I recall, the CR2's are about four dollars a piece or more.

Hi,
When the voltage reading was 8.7V vs. 9.0V and some(3V x 3), I knew
something was not right.
Congrats. and enjoy your new toy.

When I bought mine, it was from a dealer who uses one in his studio. I gave him
my new battery in exchange for his (1 month ond) just charged one. I was up and
running right away. :-)

My supplier loaned me his battery for a couple of days
