Building my Mom a Computer for Christmas

Title says it all, I'm in a budget but willing to splurge if necessary. She just needs this for internet and Youtube HD streaming, nothing more honestly. Sad thing is, her current computer cannot handle it. She already has W7, a 1080p monitor, a mouse, a keyboard, a 500gb hdd, and a good enough odd. If you can find me better for not much more, or for around the same price with good Black Friday deals, let me know.

  1. 8GB is too much. Get 4GB.
The FX-4100 is $80, and just a notch behind the Phenom II.

    Intel Celeron G540

If you go the Intel route power consumption will be much lower, you'll have a much better IGP, and the ability to upgrade to something much faster.

Mum doesn't need a quad core for internet browsing....
  3. Your motherboard (The one in your link) only supports 95wTDP CPU's.

The 955 you lniked to is 125w TDP.

The 4100 is a 95w TDP, so I would go with that or a 95w Phenom
  4. Any reason for the quadcore?
  5. Thanks z1nonly, totally missed that. I wanted a quad core for two reasons, it feels lame upgrading from dual core to dual core (I know its not a valid argument its just a feeling I have, haha).
