Crossfire performance worse!?!

The title says it all - when I enable crossfire, the graphics look worse and fps go down... I haven't run furmark yet but it is noticeably worse. Here is my setup;

(2) ATI 5870 4gb Eyefinity 6 Edition X'fired w. Zalman VF3000A coolers
ASUS m5A99FX Pro R2.0 Mobo (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99FX_PR...)
AMD FX 8150 @4.8GHZ w. Corsair H80
Corsair Vengeance 4x4GB
Corsair Force GT 120GB
WD 1TB Caviar Blue
Corsair GS800 PSU
Antec 1200
Windows 7 Pro

My mobo has "2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (dual x16)" and the cards are in those spots... the blue PCIe slots to be specific which the manual suggests you use for xfire. Also, I tried the xfire bridge in both spots to see if that made any difference, but nothing as I expected. I'm not sure what I did wrong but any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

First run a benchmark with and without Xfire to make sure that your FPS are indeed going down. What you may be experiencing is microstuttering.

I downloaded WOW 10 day trial to test the graphics out. The fps during that with crossfire on were about 60 or so and about 88 or so without crossfire. I'm at work but when I get done I'll run benchmarks

Hmm that is strange. Maybe WOW doesn't scale well with Xfire. Try other games. and also try benchmarks such as 3DMark

Not very many games support crossfire.
