Custom LCD display

I have a Toshiba laptop, more specifically a Toshiba Sattelite C655D-S5200, and I don't need it anymore. I think it would be cool if I could cut out a 6''x1'' rectangle on the very front panel where it says Toshiba, and put a LCD display there, wire it to the Board and write a program to write letters (or anything really) to the front LCD. If you have any ideas please let me know!\
