First gaming PC build

I have gotten many many ideas from people on how to build my first gaming pc. I have a $400 budget but I am willing to pay more (no more than $500).This is the current model I am working with.

All of these parts have been suggested by other people. The only problem is the GPU. I do realize that I would need a better GPU to play games like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim smoothly. If there is anything on here that I could downgrade so I could have more money to upgrade the GPU please let me know. I will be building this around Christmas time.
Also, anything is an upgrade to me. I am currently using a Dell Dimension 4700 with Windows XP that a friend found at the dump quite some time ago

I was thinking maybe keep everything I have and add on a i5 3570k or is that AMD cpu better?

Also why not the gtx 660?
