Promise Ultra100 RAID Modification

Hi,

A while back, Tom posted that the Ultra66 IDE controller could be turned into a FastTrak66 IDE RAID controller with a resistor and a BIOS upgrade. Does this hold true for the Ultra100 as well, or had promise taken steps to prevent this kind of "upgrade". If so, has anyone done it and documented the exact modification? I'm an EE, so it's definitely within my abilities to do a mod like this. It sure would be nice to save the $60 or so price difference between the Ultra100TX2 and FastTrack100TX2.

Thanks

Just use the ATA/66 model. You won't notice much (if any) difference in performance.

Actually, the Ultra100TX2 that Promise is making now cannot be converted to a RAID controller. :( They started using different controller chips on the Ultra and FastTrack boards. There isn't even an external EEPROM or oscillator anymore...
