I am looking for a recommendation on a graphics card for digital photo editing and some movie watching on a Dell 30" U3011 monitor. Max resolution of the monitor is 2560x1600. I will not be gaming on this system. I will mainly use PS and Lightroom for editing.

minimum would be a Radeon 6950. Above that, whatever you can afford depending upon your budget.

Would I be better off going with an Nvidea based solution for PS? I heard that CS6 takes advantage of Cuda cores?

Really anything will do in your case. Although you have a very high resolution monitor, any newish video card will run at that. You did not list your case or computer model, but this card should work in anything. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Edit.. you are using Photoshop, if you have the budget, get a nVidia Quadro card, this should be OK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Cuda cores are overrated, If you have money buy a upper midrange card like 6950 or 7850 and a ssd to use for scratch/ catch disk. That will give you perfect performance. If the resolution was not so high I would have suggested a 6870 or 560 ti or even 6850.
