Hi guys, I recently built my new pc. here are the specs:
i7 3770 @ 3.4 GHz-not overclocked
Afox GTX 670
16GB G.Skill Ram
Asrock Z77 Extreme Motherboard
Viewsonic VX2433WM 24" LCD Screen
Now here is the problem
When i play GTA IV, i have all settings on max and it uses 1203 Mb out of 2048 MB i have on my GPU.
When i play the game i get 30-50 fps MAX, it even goes down to 16 sometimes. What the hell is wrong?
when i play Crysis 2 on Max and the high Res texture pack i get a stable 60 with VSync on.
Even other rockstar games get 40-60 FPS.
Please help :/

Do you have Patch 7 installed? When i recently downloaded GTA IV off Direct2Drive it ran like hell 5-15 FPS but then Patch 1.0.7.0 solved everything it even had more Graphics options.

No you wont be able to max those 3 bars at the bottom of the settings (I forget their names) but draw distance, graphic detail etc.

You can max everything else though, don't worry its the same for pretty much everybody, they arent really necessary anyway as its just rendering stuff that you cant really see...

I can max crysis 2 no problem still cant max those settings on GTA IV and get 60fps...

Edit: you should be able to raise them a bit but having them all set to 100 just isnt going to work out that good...

Sort of, the draw distance has more to do with your CPU, a 3960x might be able to get there, although not sure...

I wouldnt worry about it too much, it doesnt really make that much of a difference IMO.... looks miles better than xbox/ps3...

My advice... just ignore those settings, pretend they never existed :)

It's a console port and pretty much runs like garbage on all PCs. It is very fun, though. Just adjust your settings until you get better performance. It's not a shooter, so 30fps minimum is probably enough for smooth gameplay. Just because you should be able to run it at certain settings, doesn't mean you will be able to.

I have to disagree slightly, I think it runs fine on PC's these days....

People just get disappointed about the settings I mentioned, but if you compare it to the xbox there is so much difference, resolution detail etc.... and things like the draw distance are like 5 or lower, you can literally watch the road rendering in front of you if you are driving fast.

Its far superior on a PC, the settings are just a little deceptive...

I benchmark mine with Fraps and the following result is:

Frames: 599 - Time: 10000ms - Avg: 59.900 - Min: 57 - Max: 63

I'm using FX-4100 (OC 4.0Ghz) and ASUS GTX 550 Ti Top (Non-OC). I can get much FPS than you, why? Another thing is GTA IV is not a high-end graphics-based game and GTX 670 is more than enough. There's a frame limiter in the settings and I think you've turned it on (default).

More than likely resolution...What are you playing at? Is your draw distance etc set to 100?

im playing at 1920x1080, with all settings on high, i reduced the draw distance and all those variables, and got a nice result to 60 fps. How do i turn off frame limiter on my pc?
