Multifunction machine: Scanner Function stop working

Hi,

The scanner function on my CompagA3000 multifunction
machine suddenly stop working. Copying/printing still
function. I found this has been documented by Microsoft

The hotfix required XP without SP; mine is at SP1. Can
anyone help.
