Hi:

For the Minolta AF 17-35mm f/2.8-4 (D) and I guess all the new Minolta
D-type lenses, is it 17mm after the crop factor is taken into consideration?
Is 17mm for those D lenses really 17mm?

Thanks.
Robin

Focal length does not change.

Sensor sizes may be smaller, cropping the image and so when printed at a
given size there is an apprent 'zooming in'. So the 17mm on the 7D
has an "apparent" focal length of ~26mm, but it's real FL remains 17mm.

Cheers,
Alan

Thank you. I wasn't sure if the "D" lenses came with special FL labeling or
what.

Thanks.
Robin

No Minolta "A" mounts work on pre-A-mount cameras. With the AF system,
Minolta introduced the A mount. "D" just means Distance integration for
the flash system. These lenses work on all Minolta cameras back to the
7000. ("A" or AF, Maxxum, Dynax), though the Distance integration will
not, of course, work on those cameras that don't support it.

Yes, the "camera guy" was wrong as most of them are because they rarely
have experience with anything other than their personal system (and even
then...).

Cheers,
Alan.
