Just got my XPS 8500 which is for audio production and gaming. I'm getting some glitches when doing audio because of the graphics card. Is there a way for me to disable the GT and use the integrated Intel graphics when needed?
What sort of glitches are you experiencing? How did you determine the GT640 is the problem?
I get audio stops when playing back audio using my mr816x interface. I've removed the GT40 and it solved all the problems. I use the computer for audio but my younger brother uses it for gaming so I can't just outright remove it. I need to find a way to use the integrated graphics when I'm using it.
Try this before you remove the GT640, disable the HDMI audio device(in Control Panel/Device Manager) and try your mr816x again. I suspect you have a conflict with the HDMI audio device (on the GT640) and your firewire interface.
Also, make sure that your GT640 drivers (get them at www.nvidia.com , not Dell) are up to date, as well as the drivers/software for your mr816x.
