You can always TELL these places in the online shopping community.
Go to their websites, check their hours of operation. They all close
just before sundown Friday and reopen a day later.
Reading the comments on pricegrabber and other sites that review sellers
is hilarious. Some of them have more bad comments than good.
Cameras sold as "new" but stripped of accessories that came
in the factory box, and the prices they try to charge for those needed
accessories are a joke!
Thats the kind of prices I used to see for things in Africa!
By the time you "re-buy" the accessories that are supposed to come
with the camera, you've spent as much or more than if you'd gone to
more reputable sites.
If New York and it's denizens were nuked off the face of the Earth tomorrow,
would anyone really care?

I would like to know how they stay in business, if I did something similar
the law would come after me. The local courts must be brought off. Some
places has shown the pictures of some of their store fronts, what a joke you
might be mugged if your were going there.

Let the record show that I believe Jeremy's opinion of B&H here is the
exact opposite of what this thread is about.

The last time someone tried something like that, the world
sure seemed to care. "Nous sommes tous Americains", souviens?
Now, if every anti-semitic troll were nuked off the face of the
Earth tomorrow, we might be better for it.

Shylock: How like a fawning publican he looks?
I hate him, for he is a Christian: But more, for that, in low
simplicity, He lends out money gratis, and brings down The rate of
usance here with us in Venice. If I can catch him once upon the hip,I
will feed fat the ancient grudge I bear him. He hates our sacred nation:
and he rails Even there where merchants most do congregate, On me, my
bargains, and my well-won thrift. Which he calls interest: Cursed be my
tribe If I forgive him!

They do nothing that's actually illegal.
They aren't guilty of false advertising as they don't advertise that those
items are included.
They ARE maybe unethical in that they give false impressions about what
they're selling but that's not illegal.

Just had this experience with A&M Photoworld. I reported them to
resellerratings.com, but since I never actually made a purchase from them
(fortunately) I couldn't post my comment. Resellerratings.com did send me a
link to a picture of their (and other NY stores) storefront. Rolldown steel
over the window adn right next to an adult video store.

But they do promise delivery and then, when you refuse all their add-ons,
they never deliver. And they never will. Some people have waited months
thinking their product was in stock. When questioned A&M would tell them it
was backordered. It would eventually become evident that they had no
intention of delivering, but were getting back at the purchaser for not
falling for their scam.

B&H comes off as legitimate, right off the bat because their prices
are in-line with what other reputable dealers charge.
But with those others....it's like seeing a Escalade for sale for
$30,000 only to find out the seats and steering wheel cost
$30,000 extra.

An extremely broad generalization, don't you think?
Consider B&H for instance. A fine example of a New York store. They
are selling a 1GB Sandisk Ultra II for $89.95. Hardly a rip off. They
are based in New York and are a HUGE deal!

Tis the life of news on USENET. I didn't see the thread until
yesterday. This is a high volume group and such things shouldn't
surprise you.
