A gaming machine?

Ok, so this is a pretty open question, but I would like to build a gaming computer soon and I'm not sure what would be the best to go in it. Basically, I'm asking people to tell me what components I should get to build the best gaming computer from scratch I can for around $800. Everything from the what tower to the memory. Anyone want to tell me what they would/have built?

To be more specific, I basically just want something that can run most games at high quality and play HD movies. I already have a monitor (1440x900) and keyboard and all that, I'm just asking about the computer itself. Thanks!

Approximate Purchase Date: Probably around Christmas

Budget Range: 650-800ish. Can go a little over if theres good reason

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming and watching movies

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com

Location: Wichita, Kansas

Parts Preferences: None

Overclocking: I have no idea how to do that. Im not opposed to it, but I would need some direction

SLI or Crossfire: Yes

Your Monitor Resolution: 1440x900

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I need a computer that can run games and movies well.

  1. So you have the Operating System as well?
  2. A 7770 or a 6870 for a GPU will be all you need for that resolution.
