I have been doing a little bit of housekeeping among my old PC's and I have a Quad Core machine that I would like to use to replace two existing dual core machines. One is a Windows Home Server 2011 machine and one is a Windows 7 PC that is being used as a Media Center. I'd like to set these up as virtual machines each with their own gigabit NIC, two cores of the quad core chip and about 4Gb of memory. That said, I've never setup a virtual machine before. From what I understand I probably don't want to go with Microsoft's Virtual PC. I was hoping someone could point me to a good "Getting Started with Virtualization" guide and recommend some virtualization software. I am aware of VMWare but their seem to be a million packages and I'm not sure which fits my need.
