Power usage of gpu

I had built a new system and it's time for a gpu. At the time I didn't want a super computer and I went for a modest 500w Psu it's the corsair builder series v2 500w. I wanted to know what some of the higher end cards this could support, and I dont plan on overclocking. Also is amd 7000 worth it since I heard they use less power.
My specs are
Phenom II x4 965 BE
4gb Vengence 1600Mhz
Asrock 970 de3
Please Help :)

More about power usage
  1. What is your budget? Also, what games/apps do you plan to use?
  2. Well I'd like it to be around $200 or less like if it's on sale or something. But I'd like to play some of the more demanding games like Bf3 or Metro2033. Like I said before I heard that the 7000 series use alot less and I'm thinking of the 7850, but if not either 6950(doent matter if it is 2 or 1gb) or the 560ti.

The HD7850 is indeed a nice solid choice. Here is one for your consideration:
