Hello,
I am new to thisforum but here goes... I have a Linksys 2.4Ghz 802.11g router for my home lan with comcast broadband coming into the house. I am currently downloading a 193 MB file from outside andmy meter is showing anywhere between 100 KB/s to 222 KB/s (very short burst on high end, usually around 155KB/s). Is this the best I can get or what would I need to do to improve this (upgrading router is a possibility to 802.11n)?

Download speeds have many many factors affecting them. What service you have with the ISP, where you are downloading from, if anyone else is using your network at the same time, if you have an old slow PC, network card, if you are on wifi or ethernet, how good the wifi signal is if you are using that, what wifi standard the card is using, how far away are you from the router, etc...

Do a real speed test from http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/, see what you get. Use an ethernet cable to the PC from the router, not wireless.
