Yes another thread like this, I just sold my 6950 because it wasnt as powerful as I expected. Plus it could only run Empire Total War at 25 to 40 fps, but mostly 28 fps 1200p when zooming in and campaign map. So I dont trust amd no more, since when they say they have double the cores and stuff, nvidia has less but with double the quality. But that is (or was) noticeable on the benchmarks that came out on release (before the 7950 new Bios came out), I cant seem to find recent benchmarks. Plus I think the 3gb vram the 7950 has is better at 1600p but not at 1200p. Which would u pick? and why?

BEST ANSWER IF: you have played this games with one or both cards: Empire Total War, Shogun Total war, BF3, ARMA 2 and expansions, Witcher 2 and Crysis 1 and 2. Which one is better for those games? Which one is better for dx11 and tessellation, which one should be better for ROME 2 TOTAL WAR ( since apparently nvidia cards run 15-20 fps better over amd equivalents at this titles).

PS: How much better should a 7950 be as compared to a 6950? I expect at least 20 fps more.

THANK YOU.

Uh oh. I sure hope people post some benchmarks. This is one of those threads where people tend to get "creative" in their responses without providing any confirmation.

But, this should be easy. It just so happens most of the games you listed favor Nvidia cards and will perform better on the GTX 660 Ti (sorry, I couldn't find any Arma 2 benchmarks).

I play the witcher 2 using my MSI 660 TI power edition matched with an old 1055T CPU and I get very good smooth framerates running it mostly on ultra. I you turn off uber sampling it runs very smooth. The game also looks incredible with the high setting, but I don't notice much difference in performance so I leave it ultra minus the ubersampling.

There is a video on youtube that does a card comparison between 660TI and 7950 with BF3 and the 660 Ti killed it. Couldn't say as far as Total War, try turning vsync off, sometimes that will hurt frames.

If you play with a lot of AA the 7950 is much better, if you play any higher than 1080 or 1200 the 7950 out performs also. I play at 1080 and I prefer nvidia, I am very happy with my 660TI, if you order from tigerdirect.com you get free shipping and a free copy of borderlands 2, i think they are the only ones still running the special.

hope this helps out good luck.

Nice benchmarks and you know the funny part about this is people was screaming that the 7870 and the 7950 would kill the 660 Ti but this proves pretty much that the cards sometimes out preform each other and this is at 1200p with 4xaa means the memory bandwidth isnt as bad as people say on the 660 Ti or even 660 for that matter. Continue and i would like to know the results of this thread my self :)

yes me too, since I am about to purchase the Grand MSI N660 Ti PE 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB, especially because my main games will be bf3 (if I get over the "server disconnected" issue that is killing me, dont mention a solution, NOTHING WORKS, I have spent days trying different things **** the new patch), and Total War Titles which I bought for steam for less than 13 bucks. 1920X1200 is my primary res, I know the 7950 is better at higher res, but I see that nvidia is better at 1200p.

Regarding the 660 Ti, the heavy weights haven't all weighed in until the new EVGA FTW Signature 2 version has been justly reviewed. Feedback should be trickling in soon, EVGA is sending out samples.

To the one that cried foul for people showing benches that favor Nvidia. Seriously, Arma 2 is all you could come up with to refute it? Metro 2033 is also a game that favors the 7950.

Both Arma 2 and Metro 2033 are pretty badly coded though, so they're not the best examples. Metro for one only pulls ahead when the full on craptastic blur is enabled, and Last Light is going to be so much more optimized, it won't even apply any more.

And btw, Witcher 2 would be even more of a "squeeker" with an MSI PE OC in that test. It beat the TOP you know, even after both were given max OC and the ASUS reaching MUCH higher clocks.

The TOP is another card that wanders all over FPS wise, dipping very low on frame rates. The FTW Sig 2 may end up being the best of the bunch if it OCs as well as many are hoping.
